Aberrant: Discoveries

The Big Apple
zachary

You have arrived in New York, a central hub of American industry and lifestyle. New Eufiber fashion pieces are on sale at every corner, new OpNet technology is being advertised all over the place, and everyone is moving, talking, doing. It would be overwhelming to you, if it were not so boring. These people seem so ignorant of what really goes on around them, and what’s worse, they like it that way. Pitiful.

With ample time for preparations, you have the city at your fingertips. Central Park, where you supposed to meet “Zachary” at, is not far from your location. You can see the building Colette is positioned in from here, though you’ve had no word as to anyone suspicious arriving. Do you wish to wait for your contacter? The city is a valuable resource. There are many other tasks you could occupy yourself with in the meantime.

1. Ry Cavin

It was dark. Tonight, Ry gets a job offer. A job that will change his life…

A letter comes in the mail. No return address, just a simple, plain envelope with Ry’s name and address scrawled across the outside. You open the envelope, and read the letter.

Ry Cavin, I have a job for you. Don’t worry, you’ll be paid for it. Paid well, if you get me what I need. I need a bit of information regarding the governor of New York. He’s been sleeping around, I know it, but I can’t get any proof. This will be the story of the century, and I’ve heard you can get me the info. A recording, a photo, anything! If you’re interested, meet me in NYC, at Central Park in a week, the 28th. I’ll find you.

5. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Ry Cavin boards a semi-private charter from Tokyo, with a destination of Munich. His purpose is to arrive in Ny as a tourist with at least 4 hours to spare before the ‘meeting’. Even though he was advised against it by his small tight-knit group, he is using an old alias and taking no special precautions with his journey. He has a place in mind to sit and wait for his ‘mystery man’ to meet him.

3. The pieces are placed on the board

Ry broods in his office underground on his island retreat. “What can be done that hasn’t been done already?” he thinks as he holds his head in his hands.

He checks his secure line, tests it with a brief message and calls Colette.

Ry- “Hello Colette…can you talk?”

Colette- “Yes, that will be fine. I am arriving shortly to the preset spot.”

Ry- “Did you get a room with a view?”

Colette- “Certainly. A nice and comfortable room.”

Ry- "I will be leaving soon for a visit, and all communications will be needing to go through “territory U”, understand. “Territory U”

Colette- “I understand and await Z time, Ry.”

Ry- Goodbye…[click]

Ry slammed his secure monitor down. There it was. Not only his identity compromised, but an unsolicited job coming to their secure mail drop. He thought for a second and then dialed Tim Hanson. Tim answered from his Majorca balcony, his feet up and looking out over the scenery-

Hanson- “Ry, I was going to….”
Cavin- “I know, but this situation requires IMMEDIATE attention.”
Hanson- “It was unusual, but I needed to pass it on to you anyway.”
Cavin- “And you have done the normal checks….scanner and such…”
Hanson- “I even checked out the mailroute all the way back to Barcelona. No dice.”
Cavin- “Hmmmm”
Hanson- “So we have someone who not only knows our address to our PO Box, but we also have someone who knows our business and other business details. Its incredible. It’s never happened before.”
Cavin- "We need to check previous customers…Parker, Wiese, EVERYBODY in the last year. Someone is dishing out information to others. Up to now, we were secure. WE approached customers. WE set agendas. Now we have a compromise.
Hanson- “But the other customers…they didn’t know your name or anything.”
Cavin- “Check them out anyway. Once the secrecy is gone, we are just another office on Main Street with you and I working in open cubicles.”
Hanson- “(Pause) Should we take actions for travel to NY?”
Cavin- Yes….and send Colette ahead. She will need all special equipment.
Hanson- “Yes Sir!”
Cavin- “And Hanson…”
Hanson- “Yes”
Cavin- “I need answers. Pull strings and do what you need to do. Use HACKSAW.”

Ry scratched his head and appeared deep in thought. There was so much he needed to do in 7 days!

4. Enjoying the View

Checking in on the 26th, Colette is attended to by several different bellboys helping with her luggage. She is under an assumed name and has Mr. Hanson alerted that her background will need to check out if it is questioned. She has relatively little luggage, but it is sports equipment and fairly heavy.

Colette- “I intend on taking part in the ‘HOPE’ games taking place in the Park next week,” she says and smiles as the straining bellhop.

Bellhop- “Ughh…We have OOOF a lot of visitors for that track and field contest”

Both she and the bellhop get into the elevator

Colette- “And it is all for a good cause!” she says.

They arrive at the Penthouse level. It is Floor 26 of the Essex, and is located just below the large dining hall that takes up all of the top floor. The 4 penthouses are of presidential quality, and if checked out, someone would find that there are 2 of the 4 currently rented for the next few weeks. One is to the Diplomatic mission from Kazakistan, a group of 8 or 10 diplomats who are here for the United Nations African relief meeting, and the other is rented to a an up and coming amateur track and field star who will be participating in the ‘HOPE’ games.

The bellhop give Colette the key for the room, and a pamphlet for numbers to contact if she needs anything. Colette searches for cash and finds none in her blouse. Embarrased, instead of cash she reaches downward and gives him a kiss on the cheek while holding his shoulder.

The bellhop turns red and he is much embarrassed, but he is satisfied with the tip she has given him.

Colette (aka Alicia Royce) makes sure the room door is shut, and pushes the button that closes all of the windows.

She opens her first piece of luggage and goes to work!
